Sender: W. Adams 
Recipient: Family
Date: September 30th, 1862
Context: Some of W. Adams' soldiers are missing and they suppose that they are at camp and taken by the Yankees. Many African-American soldiers were taken by the Yankees, so they burned the Yankees to death and did not shoot one gun. Adams wished he was there to witness this fight. All of W. Adams' things are slowly being destroyed and is running out of paper and is in need of new shoes.

Date: September 21st, 1862 
Context: Alexander was one of the soldiers that refrained "Maryland, My Maryland." He only ate apples and corn for six days and many soldiers became sick. Their clothing was almost all destroyed and people barely had enough strength to go and find food. So many were sick that all the ambulances were completely full and couldn't take anymore ill soldiers. He began talking about the Potomac and how the infantry marched through Maryland, but not one of the farmers' lands who resided in the country were ruined.

Date: September 22nd, 1862
Context: W.C. had to help 64 people with dressing their wounds, he is exhausted but knows he has to help more and more people. He says that the days after the battle are the worst compared to the days of the battle because so many people are hurt and wounded and even the dead appear to be sickening. He expects another big fight to happen at Harpers Ferry and can not start to head there until everyone is healed where he is now. W.C. was dreaming of his loved ones and being at home to make him happy and to forget all the exhausting pain of the war. Also he is now friends with two rebel officers who are prisoners and are very intelligent, and they are all favorites of the officers.

Date: September 21st, 1862
Context: George is explaining how the loss of the 11th is dreadful. He was there to bandage people and was in a corn field and lost many of his belongings while fighting surrounded him. 

Sender: John Redfield
Recipient: Brothers and Sister
Date: October 14th, 1862
Context: John wishes he was home and hates his job. His Captain passed away and his job consists of sitting and being on guard. He has lost a good bit of his hearing and his health. John wishes he was home with his family and will send letters soon. 

Informative Sign: 
These assortment of letters written by all different soldiers in different areas are all mentioning the struggles of the war. All five of these letters were written in the year of 1862 and the month of September. They consisted of the soldiers longing for their loved ones and descriptions of the horrible visions and gory of the war. How could the soldiers of the Civil War put into words the death, blood, and sacrifice that they experienced? Could you imagine yourself in the middle of war just wanting to see your loved ones, so you sit down with killing surrounding you writing a letter to them hoping to see them soon?
