Newspaper Research
I researched on two very different topics. I read a newspaper on
Carnegie and how he used his wealth, and events he attended; and I read on what happened at the
Homestead strike and the different point of views of different people during the strike. Both were very interesting to see the difference between wealth and people who are at poverty level. At the Homestead Strike there were people fighting for better wages and conditions because they couldn't provide enough for their family and could no longer work in the conditions they were in. On the other hand Carnegie was a very very wealthy man and he just spent his wealth on many things and his time at different events.

During the Homestead Strike there was a huge group of people on strike, so the government sent deputies to stop the chaos. They sent 124 deputes to stop the strikers. When they arrived the strikers swarmed them and the deputies pulled their revolvers out which started more chaos. This strike was so bad that a rumor was passed along of one officer who traded in his blue coat and revolver to get a ticket back home. So the government sent the deputies away. After the deputies did not help the strike, the government sent the Pinkertons by boat to swarm the strikers without them knowing. I find it funny because the newspaper informs that the strike is under control to keep the readers calm knowing that nothing violent will happen. This obviously was not true because a bomb exploded into the crowd, strikers died, and officers died.

The newspaper I read on Carnegie was the total opposite of the Homestead Strike. The newspaper talked about what Carnegie said about rooms, and events. He was buying a park and library with his wealth and the newspaper was interviewing him when he visited the library. He talked about how he wanted to preserve some rooms to make museums. He also talked about how beautiful and exquisite the rooms were. Also it explained what events he attended and what happened. It was the total opposite of the newspaper on the Homestead Strike and shows the different things that happened between the wealthy and the poor.
