Civil War Memorials

"America, how should we remember this soldier?"

I agreed the most with the author of this article when he said "Elijah Morrison and those like him deserve to be remembered and honored." I believe that the soldiers who fought in war in the 1800's should be honored. Those soldiers fought for our country, left their families behind, and risked their lives for the U.S. I believe that their graves should be marked and that they use these areas of land to commemorate the great work they did for us.

"Put progressive Civil War Republicans on a Pedestal"

I agreed when the author was talking about some great things people did in the past like Achsah Newton Lakin when she said, "I know of no reason why I should withhold my child." Her child was trying to teach people and she was receiving social ostracism just because she was teaching some people. When the author said that these are some great moments in history, I agree because those people were fighting for good things and represent our history well and should be commemorated.

"Truth Behind Confederate Symbolism"

I agreed with a quote that Abel Bartley said about how we need to debate over the heritage and the confederate narrative. I think this is totally true because there isn't one definition of it, some people view it as a symbol about a war that americans fought in and that it honors those soldiers who fought for us, but others believe it represents slavery. I think that one definition will need to be reached for the symbol to be used or not to be used or else there will always be controversy on the symbol that the confederate flag creates.

I agree most with the first article listed. I honestly believe that all soldiers who died fighting for our country should be honored by receiving a proper grave. We can do this by figuring out who is lying in those graves and make them a proper headstone since they gave their lives to make the country that it is today.
